Marnie the mermaid

This is Marnie. She's a Waldorf style mermaid doll. She's stuffed with clean, carded wool, and is made with natural materials. Marnie is wearing a few sequins for sparkle, and a single pearl on a glistening strand. Her top closes at the back with 2 snaps.

I'm really happy with her face and her hair. It just came out perfectly!

Marnie loves to lounge on rocks. She's a mermaid - it's not all that surprising.

Penny

A long while back, I found a knitwear designer on Ravelry who makes beautiful clothing for Waldorf dolls - Tomboyknits. I just adored her work. I stared and coveted and longed for something amazing from her hands for a long time -- and then I worked up the nerve, and just asked her. And suddenly, we were collaborating!

The result is Penny. A blonde and pink haired, 14" Waldorf doll, with a lovely set of rainbow skirty overalls. She has light blue eyes, freckles, and she is even more adorable in person!

The heart applique on the front of Penny's dress is actually a pocket! How cute is that?

Penny will make someone very happy one day. If you'd like to see more of her, she is available here.

In the works.

If you follow Making Friends over on Facebook, then you know that about 10 days ago, I was going out of my mind with nerves and excess energy. Boober, my 15 month old son, went in to the hospital last Tuesday for a (very common, very low-risk) surgery. He came through it like a BOSS! and is back to his old mischeivous self. In fact, we were out and back home in time for lunch.

But, that 4 or 5 days of nerves and worry and lying awake at night led to some serious productivity!
There is the current collaboration project I'm working on with Tomboyknits - almost done! I just need to apply facial features and hair to the doll.
I found an indie dyer with a great sense of colour, and hit her up for a custom job for pastel rainbow hair.
I have started 2 more dolls - one is even a mermaid! The bodies are fully sewn, and the heads are rolled and tied.
There are 2 bunny suits that just need ears and elastic.

So . . . productive! But . . . only half finished. There should be lots to see in short order!

Wally

As promised - a boy with mixed rainbow hair!
This one is so cute, I had a hard time packing him into the box and shipping him off.

Why Wally? Well, Sweet Pea watched Wall*E when this guy was about half completed. Then she spent two days playing Wall*E. In her world, this consists of running around the living room with a blanket over her head, repeatedly yelling out "WALLY! Wally? WaaaAAAALLLYYY!!!!" and so on. For hours. For some reason, Wally was the only thing I could think of when it came time to give this little guy a name.

When he was all finished up, we took Wally for a long walk to the park, and let him play on the toddler jungle gym. I think he really enjoyed it!

And now Wally is on his way to a little boy. He'll be more than happy to give all the snuggles and go on adventures. Bon voyage, Wally!

Mermaid!

It took me the better part of a month to pull this one together, but there will definitely be more mermaids in my future!

Sweet Pea really enjoyed helping me decide on the details - and I think she did a great job suggesting just the right amount of sparkle.

Everything came together pretty much perfectly. I'm very happy with all of it!

Now I have a custom doll on the go, and then some Easter stuff to complete. I'm pretty pumped about the custom doll - it will be a 14" boy with mixed rainbow hair. Should be pretty cute. He's already got a head!

I *should* be making dolls . . .

. . . but lately I've been knitting!
I've had a lot of things on needles. Things just sitting. Things in progress. And as of late, I've been finishing so many of them up! I finished socks, fingerless mittens, and a toddler sweater in the last week. IN THE LAST WEEK!! And it feels awesome to have that off my plate.

But now it's time to focus on dolls again. Because the whole one a week goal . . . well, it's not happening.
I have a mermaid who is just a few days away from completion. There is a custom doll in the works. Given that Easter is coming, I would really like to make some bunny suited dolls, too. There should be new dolls to show soon!

Priscilla - the first doll of 2012

Priscilla - a lovely 10" jointed doll for a young lady who very much enjoys skulls.

And here she is with her hair down.
I love the look of a head of boucle (curly) hair. Priscilla used up the remainder of my favourite colour of boucle too -- and I think it looks amazing on her!
